Characteristics and contexts of multi camera production
(what where how and why)
Characteristics
Multi camera, having multiple cameras in one shoot makes it more of an effect shoot as they can get more angles and more footage (coverage) for less time and the footage will be able to link together properly.
Time codes are used to sync the cameras so when you shoot you can link them all together and editing is then a lot easier and it can save a lot of time in post.
Context
Multiple different cameras are set up around a point to get a variety of angles and shots that blend in well together when editing. for example in shows like graham Norton's show every week there are multiple cameras to get different places and and angles around the room and set.
An example of this, I will look at this clip and screenshot every different camera.
This is done so that a live video can be more interesting than just one shot whereas one camera would make it seem very one toned and boring. with a shoot that isn't uploaded live there are still many reasons to use more than one camera or just have a b camera, some of these are that it will save time editing, so that scenes seem more interesting with different shot types that can be swapped during scenes.
I am using multi camera as this is the best way to record e sports to be able to get different reactions at once while people play a game and I am able to see many peoples reaction live to what is happening. if I weren't using multi camera to film this it would be ever strange looking, there would only be one live reaction and I don't think it would look professional or link together.
Mood board
In this mood board there is a few landscape shots of halo reach as in my opening i will include these and i think these photos accurately represent how beautiful halo reach is and how i want to portray it. the blue and purple is there as they are the colours i'm going for in the whole theme of my live show, any graphics or anything will be with these colours. There will be multiplayer things happening so i added some multiplayer and game shots in to this to show what it should look like but i need to look more in to how i will record the game to see how the multiplayer will work.
Secondary research
For some secondary research I will be finding different MLG shows, comparing them, finding the codes and conventions of MLG shows and finding different information that could assist me in making my project.
Major league gaming
What is it?
Major league gaming or MLG as it's more commonly known is a whole different type of sports called esports. These sports are made in to big competitions where loads of people play, they dedicate their lives to this and can earn thousands if not more.
This is a really good documentary about e sports and how people dedicate their lives to it and it explains this world to people who may not have any knowledge on the subject.
Codes and conventions
the codes and conventions of major league gaming
Game play on screen
name or nickname/ gamer tag on screen
footage of a singular player at a time
score in graphic form on the top
map and game type written on the graphics at start of game
opening has three strengths or accomplishments for each player
commentators talking over it all
I've been looking at mlg videos like this one to see how they are set up professionally and how I could make my video look as good if not better than there is. From this video I can see that most of the codes and conventions as there are many thing that these videos have in common.
Comparison
Comparison and differences between two different mlg tournaments.
For this I will be comparing two different videos of tournaments and talking about the similarities, differences and my opinion on them.
The video above and this one below are the video that I will be comparing, the video above will be called V1 and the one below V2.
These two videos really helped me to see how i can make my video and what looks good and what doesn't. I now know what graphics to make and what makes the videos look professional and now i have watched these videos i know what could be improved upon for example something that annoys me is when you can see someones point of view but they are not doing anything but hiding in a corner and it makes it boring so i will make sure you always see something going on if there is something going on.

What did this survey teach me
From this survey I have learnt that out of the 10 people who answered 6 were males and 8 in my target age range, I think this is great as i can get answers and opinions off the people who I want to enjoy my product.
So straight away most people I asked haven't seen anything about what MLG is, this isn't so bad as you don't have to know and be involved in the world of esports to enjoy my product especially with the hide and seek game I'm planning to also film. I asked them if they would watch people playing Halo Reach and 6 said they would witch is great as that is how many people in my target audience answered the questionnaire, this has taught me that you do not need to know loads about playing console games and gaming in general to enjoy it which is great as it will help me to get more people who will watch my final product.
The people who answered my survey also said they find it entertaining to watch people play games, I asked this so i can see connections between bloomer and katz uses and gratification theory and my final product, to get more information than this question gave me I asked about why people would watch or do watch videos of people gaming, i got the response that most people watch gaming videos to either be entertained or as escapism but some watch to learn about the game and how to play.
the next thing i asked is about my recent add on to my video, the hide and seek game or games, i haven't yet finalized this idea but I'm adding it to give me more footage and in case anything goes wrong in one shoot i will always have the other. When i asked about including this and if it was childish most people said they would watch this and although hide and seek is childish how i would be doing it in game makes it more mature.
My last two questions were very simple to let me know if my target audience would actually enjoy my main idea and watch it, most people said they would watch my video and for the tournament mostly. this really helps me as now i can move forward in y project more confident that I am making something my target audience would watch and appreciate.
Hide and seek
I have decided to add hide and seek to my recording, this is because of many different factors. the first is in case my footage isn't very good from the tournament, this could be if the footage fails or even if it just isn't very interesting. Another reason is that i thought it would be a fun thing to add to this and it gives the people who do not know the game chance to do good and succeed in one f the games. My thoughts for hide and seek would be to have maybe two or three games where there is four people hiding and two searching, this will be hard to film and will need a different set up but if i plan it well it should go smoothly.

Looking at this video i have found out things i should include in my version of this and things i will improve upon for example....

Do you read the texts in opening sequences?
Yes !!!!
No !!!!!!
From this survey I have learnt how tome my opening sequence so it fits my target audience.
I asked first what makes you concentrate on an opening sequence as to make sure my target audience actually watches my opening I have to make them interested and appeal to what they like. The answers said that the music keeps their concentration on the opening sequence so I have learnt I need to put in good music that will attract my target audience and keep them engaged, this also pairs with the question asking how loud the music on it should be and they said they prefer it to be louder than quieter, this is good for me as the louder the music the more focused on it you are.
The next question was simple, do you even watch opening sequences, I found out to my surprise a lot of people still watch opening sequences and don't skip it, this is good as it has led me to be more confident and it have given me more motivation.
'Do you think its better to have long or short opening sequences?' I asked this as it is so important to my opening sequence, I needed to know how long I should make my opening sequence, I would say a short one would be 15 seconds whereas a long one would be up to 1 minuet. From this question I have learnt that my target audience would prefer a shorter opening sequence so I will make mine under 30 seconds but long enough to shoe detail on each player.
I also asked about the text as most opening sequences in the same area as mine will be have facts on the players come up but as people are saying they don't read text on opening sequences much I think instead of the three facts I was planning I will go with one for each person as I don't want to bore my target audience or make them uninterested.
The last two question I asked link to the uses and gratification theory, I asked if they enjoy opening sequences to that I discovered people do but I asked why and most said that they enjoy opening sequences and watch them because They are entertaining and they tell a story so I will have mine hopefully be entertaining with quick cuts and fades while telling the audience about the players.
Target Audience
My Target audience is people who are aged 16-25, men, socio economic group E, student. unemployed.
So i looked in to what people in this age group would enjoy and what would attract them.
To do this i asked people in my target audience what their main hobby's are, what their favorite shows are and what attracts them. I asked these questions as it is helps me to see what my TA does in their spare time, this will help me be able to see their interests so i can see how to target my show to them. Asking about their favorite show helps me to see what shows they like so i can see how i can set up my show so it attracts them like these shows. then finally i asked what attracted them to the show so i could see what attracts them that i could replicate to attract them more and keep them interested.
The first person i asked said his hobbys are playing video games, his favorite show is hermitcraft because he can see people playing the game and how they do it. This is great as this is the esact person that my show is aimed at and would enjoy it, Nate said how he likes to watch shows to see how people play and i think this is a really good thing to focus on in my game and should help to keep people watching and interested.
The next person i asked said their hobby's are crafting or playing old games, their favorite show is a comedy called Brooklyn nine nine, their attracted to this as they like the realism crossed with the comedy. This has taught me that my target audience has a range of things they are interested in and they like creativity and realism. i will use this knowledge when editing to make the show more creatie and fun for the audience.
The last person i asked said their hobby's are playing games, their favorite show is game of thrones and they are attracted to it because of the fact its medevil and like the games they play. this helps me to see that there are many different types of games and people who play games, this person has taught me that people like themes and they enjoy things to be linked together, i like this as i will use it to set up my show and use the themes to make it more organised and enjoyable.
Set up/ Recording
To get information about my set up and how it will work I asked springboard for advice and they said how they used to set it up and what they used to do so I knew what I could do and how I can film my tournament.
what they said they used to;
use a hdmi splitter to be able to record the output from the console and to be plugged in to something else that would record it. For the hide and seek however where I am using two Xbox’s I will need one to have a screen recorder attached as they only have one hdmi splitter that can be used.

The video above and this one below are the video that I will be comparing, the video above will be called V1 and the one below V2.
Differences
I compared the first 5 mins of these videos. In these two videos there really is not much difference, this is my fault as these videos are the same but made a year apart but unfortunately this was the only examples i could find to be able to compare but i think it will help me to how they improved their videos in a year showing me the little things I would never think of and how they improved them to make their videos and shows better every year.
I noticed a lot of differences in these videos that were probably due to how old the videos are and the production costs, It seems that the 2012 video, the bottom one has had less time out in to the creation of it. there was a few minuets where the screen had a pink tone to it. The second video also didn't have as much time where you could hear what the teams were saying to each other.
similarities
There's quite a lot of similarities in theses videos. One this that is similar is the graphics, there is the graphic on top that says the name of the team and what colour they are so the person watching can tell. It also has their point score on it, i think this is a great idea and i will probably do this myself.
Another thing they both have is a graphic in the corner around footage of the player. the graphic normally says their gamer name and what team they are in with the colour they are playing as in the game, this is also the same person that you are seeing the view of. This is really good idea i think i might have it like this but for both sides.

comparing red vs blue opening sequence and a MLG opening sequence
Differences
There are a lot of differences between these openings, Red vs Blue is a comedy spoof where as the MLG opening is trying to be formal and professional so this causes a lot of differences for example the songs used, the red vs blue song is a comedy song written for the show, it is mostly a joke laughing at things in the show for example the fact that the tank has no doors but in the MLG opening has upbeat music playing to make it seem more serious, it's not really a song being played but just the music so it can make the audience more excited and interested. This difference shows what changes between a spoof show opening and a real one, although red vs blue is made to look professional you can tell it is a joke from the music.
similarities
There are quite a few similarities to these videos as they are set out similarly and trying to attract the same audience. The red vs blue intro is very simple just showing the characters, their names and using how they show them to explain the character slightly for example if a character is a sniper in the show they are shown crouching behind something with a sniper in the opening, this is clever and is a good way to explain the show and characters a bit but in the MLG opening there are also freeze frames like in red vs blue where it will stop on the player and say their name but instead of suggesting things about them they write on the screen three top facts about the player, this could be how they play or what competitions they have won. Using the opening to show who is playing and to say something about them is a really good idea, it saves time in the show and is fun and simple while keeping the audiences attention as they will be able to quickly read things in the opening and not just ignore the opening.
Conclusion
Overall there are differences in these videos like how the MLG opening has clips of people playing and the Red Vs Blue only really has shots of the characters but they both have the same target audience and the same ideas, i think looking in to these and their differences is really helping as i am able to see what my target audience would like and what works and what doesn't. from looking at these videos i have learnt that i will use upbeat music to interest and excite the audience while using freeze frames to explain the players to the audience.codes and conventions
